Our Design Philosophy
We strive to create architecture that is intelligent, inherently functional, uplifting and impactful. Our designs are responsive to our client’s needs, perceptively created to allow for future flexibility, and sensitive to the context of the natural surroundings, built from the inside out so the project resonates in the lives of the occupants and limits the environmental footprint.
We begin the design process by establishing a logical, honest and respectful connection with our client, establishing fresh and open communication to drill down to the root of each potential design problem. It is this relationship that fosters a discovery dialog with our client, focusing first on:
• Assisting the client find the answers to the right questions.
• Defining the true scope of work necessary to achieve maximum Value.
• Consistently understanding the long‐term impact of the project for future development.
Upon the establishment of Project Goals, Program and Scope, our team delves into the design problem, applying a concept of ‘Value‐Added” design; using creative problem solving to find the optimal solutions which eliminate wasteful design and space planning, right‐sizing the design solution and project budget to maximize the value and impact of each dollar spent by the client.
Our approach to ‘Value‐Added Design’ requires an integrated and systematic design approach in order to maximize the synergistic opportunities between architectural design, innovative systems engineering and technically proficient construction. These synergies are discovered, evaluated and implemented early in the schematic design process through the multi‐platform involvement of designers, engineers, and all project shareholders.
The discovery and use of these synergies is a key component in allowing the design to achieve richness and unity through the creative resolution of the basic core issues, quality and timelessness through professional integrity, and the interplay of materiality and the spatial experience, rather than relying upon cosmetically‐applied ‘sophistication’.
Given the longevity of the firm, our design professionals fully understand the potential impact a built structure may have on the surrounding environment and community, both positive and negative. Sustainability is rooted in our firm philosophy as we believe we have both a community responsibility and a strong professional desire to incorporate LEEDTM design principles into every project we create. Careful thought is given to the building’s climate and natural environment in its placement on the site, floor plan, and sensitively selected materials and construction methods. Integrating architectural, lighting, and mechanical and plumbing systems improves the chances for long-term, high quality human performance and cost-effective operation and maintenance of every facility we design.
